Glad you are enjoying them, check out some of the recipes in Clean Eating Magazine, the stats will even be better using the Springerhill Ranch beef due to how lean the product is. Please feel free to share any of your own recipes you experiment with, would love to have them on my site :-)

Sharon: So glad you're doing a blog! Look forward to reading your posts. For those who haven't yet met Sharon, she really knows her stuff. I met Sharon in 2009, when she had her Smart Meals location in SW Houston. SmartMeals was the only meal service that helped me lose weight.. I've tried other meal programs, but have not had the same success. I cannot recommend Sharon and Dr. Roxanne Edrington highly enough - they rock. And FYI: this is totally unsolicited ...

P.S. I just realized Susan posted a comment a month ago! She's a friend of mine, but I didn't realize you two had met! Small world. :-) Linda

I'm not a dietitian, but from my own personal experience for weight loss I would average around 1500 cal per week, give or take. It depends on your activity level, what you've been doing in the past which may have affected your metabolism, and other health issues. I would always recommend an annual check up first :-) The key to success is frequent meals, the right combination or portion of protein, carb and fat, preferably under 30% fat, ideally under 20% fat. I tend to taper my carbs off at the end of the day, I don't believe in cutting out carbs completely as some suggest, you just won't have much energy and I believe in moderation.

Second, if you try and follow this important rule: eat right 95% of the time and relax the other 5%, you won't feel deprived. An example is to follow a healthy diet 7 days a week BUT have 2-3 meals where you don't watch, enjoy and eat what you want, you will still lose weight, I promise :-) Give yourself permission to enjoy family dinners, parties, etc, you just can't do it everyday. Exercise in any way whether it's at the gym or outside doing yard work is always great and will accelerate the process. Wherever you can replace activity such as walking, taking the stairs, even doing every other step for a few flights (a great lower body quickie) I do this sometimes in office buildings any chance you have to burn a few extra calories do it, it will all add up.

Finally, my advice or workout mantra is something I say to myself and follow, "anything is better than nothing" so, if you don't think you have enough time to run 30 min and only have time for 20, do 20 as most likely you'll skip it all together and not do it. It will all add up to results. Your goal should be to lose 1-2 lbs per week, that is safe and what is recommended and ideal for long term personal weight loss. You want to lose body fat, not hard earned muscle or water weight which will just come back. For recommendations to consult with a Dietitian or Sports Nutritionist, feel free to email me :-)

So can you tell me what I should be looking for on lables if I am trying to stay in a 1600-1800 calorie range? I read labels and try to go with the lowest fat and higher protein, but what range should I look for, for weight loss and general good health and body function?

Great It is there now...I agree about the small changes adding up. Just cutting a few hundred calories and/or some sugar & fats out of your diet can make a big difference. Also, adding even 10-15 minutes of just walking can add to ones health goals to start. I am looking forward to more posts. Congratulations & Thanks.
